The sun’s rays seem to be ready to attack us with its ultra-violet madness! And we’ve got to figure out a way to preserve the radiance of our skin. But how? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered. Want to know a secret? The weapons to protect your beautiful skin from the UV rays and placate the damage already done are right in your kitchen! So come, let’s equip ourselves with some very easy to whip DIY skin treatments to knock off the tan.

1) Pixie dust from Grandma’s kitchen

This is a must have weapon and it is quite easy to make and use! All you need is some turmeric and Bengal gram. While turmeric is infused with anti- inflammatory and anti- bacterial properties and also does a great job in adding that oh-so-lovely glow to your skin, the gram helps to reduce unwanted zits and acne and also controls excess sebum production. This invincible duo can be whipped up to create the ultimate tan- removal and skin healing mask.

To make this mask, all you need to do is take a pinch of turmeric powder, 2 tablespoons of  Bengal gram flour, 1 tablespoon of rose water and milk and mix them together to create a pack. Apply the pack on the affected areas for around 20 minutes. After it dries up, take a cotton pad soaked with water and apply it to gently remove the pack.

Follow this regimen at least once a week to get best results.

2) Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

You heard me right! This weapon of mine is so amazing that Mary Poppins may have just described it as “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”! It is infused with the goodness of rose water and cucumber. The coolness of the cucumber and rose-water help in soothing acne- prone skin and restoring your skin’s lost glow.

To create this magic potion you will need to mix the juice derived from one cucumber along with two generous teaspoons of rose water. Apply this mixture to the affected areas of your skin gently using a cotton pad. Rinse it off after 20- 30 minutes.

Follow this regimen daily to reap the best results.

3) Flavoured yogurt for the skin

Who doesn’t like some flavoured yogurt in the summers? I am sure skin won’t mind some either from time to time. This tomato-and-cucumber-flavoured yogurt pack can become your skin’s favourite snack this summer.

To make this pack, you need to take 1 cup of yogurt, the juice of one grated cucumber, pulp of 1 tomato and ½ cup gram flour. Mix them well and apply for 30 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water. This pack will not only get rid of the tan but also tighten the pores and reduce redness of the skin.

Voila! Isn’t this a yummy treat for your skin? Follow this regimen once a week for best results.

4) Strawberry milkshake for your skin

Okay, you will need 4 to 5 strawberries and 2 tablespoons of milk for this recipe; and no, this is not meant to indulge your taste glands. Fun fact! Strawberries have strong astringent, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties that help in treating sun- burns and protect our skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. They are also infused with alpha-hydroxy acid that can help in getting rid of dead skin cells. Milk, on the other hand, does a great job in combating skin dryness. Mix these two up and we have a power duo to fight off the summer heat.

Apply this mixture to the affected areas of your skin for around half an hour and then rinse it off using a gentle cleanser.

Caution: People with oily skin should avoid this skin treatment as the milk may aggravate acne.
